EY Matters Continual Online Conference
An enabling environment is key to a child’s overall developmental opportunities, experiences and emotional connections with those other than their parents and carers. But how do we provide an environment that supports this? This presentation will explore the importance of an enabling environment, how we can specifically provide an emotionally safe environment, the impact if we don’t and how we need to remain open to new ways of working in this current climate. Including developing our understanding of a trauma informed approach to best support and care for our children who may of experienced heightened levels of stress and anxiety. We will also explore the importance, now more than ever, of a home/nursery connection to support the home learning environment.
Cheryl has 26 years experience within the Early Years Sector in a variety of roles including Family Support, Local Authority Early Years Development, Training and Lecturing, Early Years Consultancy with a focus on Quality Environments and Engagement and supporting Nurseries to improve outcomes at inspection
“I am asked to speak at national sector events, on various topics, most recently sensory processing disorder and early years environments, a topic very close to my heart.
I also regularly work alongside other sector professionals at seminars and conferences and have delivered webinars within the UK, UAE and Saudi Arabia.
I’m currently supporting nursery settings as a quality support mentor. I’m in the rooms working alongside staff supporting their growth, helping to expand their knowledge and expertise and inspiring them to be the best practitioner they can be. Alongside this, working with managers to develop ongoing strategies for staff development.
I credit my two amazing young sons who show me everyday that life is for living and being who you truly are, in order to reach for the stars.”

I introduced this range of presentations in March 2020 and we could not have imagined how popular they would be with thousands accessing them and submitting their reflections. With the development of the EY Matters Online Platform, I decided to move all of the content into one place to make it easier to access and also to automate the process.
