Dinosaur Douglas Has Fun in the Sun

£5.99

Written by Heather Maisner as part of her Dinosaur Douglas range of books that offer an exciting and fun way to explore health-related subjects for Early Years children, this is the first children’s picture book to raise awareness about vitamin D; it is written in a fun way in rhyme with lively illustrations and of course featuring the cheeky but loveable Dinosaur Douglas.

With the rise of illnesses associated with vitamin D deficiencies, including rickets, dental disease and convulsions in the very young, Heather joined forces with Paediatric Consultants at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital to tackle the problem. The major source of vitamin D is sunshine but children are not getting enough of it. Television, iPads, computers and computer games keep them indoors.

Reviews
“A bestselling children’s author has joined forces with paediatric consultants to create a book aimed at helping children understand the importance of getting Vitamin D by playing outside.”
The Mail on Sunday

“I was really impressed with the way the children were able to connect to the books … even about something as complex as Vitamin D. The discussions that resulted were really fruitful. The themes, covering healthy lifestyle choices, are unlike any that I have been able to find for children in a fictional text, so I personally found it really useful”
Kimberley Buchanan (Y1 Teacher, Greenside Primary School, London W12

About the Author

Heather Maisner is author of over 37 children’s books, including award-winning titles, published by many UK publishers.

Her children’s books range from picture books to books for fluent readers and teenagers and cover subjects as diverse as tractors, planet early, history, the weather, first-time stories and stories that are ideal for reluctant young readers, combining fiction with fact, and games with information. Her books have been translated into many languages and are sold all over the world.

Her first books for children, The Tractors of Thomson Yard, published by Walker Books, were inspired by her son’s fascination with tractors. At a time when there were no books with tractors as heroes, she created four titles, based on a Norfolk farm. Each tractor has its own song, and the stories explore the working life of tractors throughout the farming year.

Heather spends her time between London and Norfolk, and her house is always full of pets: dogs,
cats, hamsters, rabbits, budgerigars, a chinchilla – but no dinosaurs. Until now . . .

Heather is also Publisher of Dinosaur Douglas Books – fun, healthy, rhyming books, which cover subjects including oral health, vitamin D, healthy eating and exercise, hand-washing, mental health and stress – Finalists in the Early Years Excellence Awards.

Dinosaur Douglas Books are written, working closely with paediatric consultants at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, H&F Family Support, Alberta Wellness Initiative and the NSPCC.

Heather teaches creative writing to children, has been Author in Residence at two Hammersmith primary schools, taught trainee teachers at the University of Hertfordshire and students at Queen Mary’s College and was on the Board of Directors at ALCS (Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society).
