Working with Difficult to Engage Parents

Parents may use avoidance, violence, disinterest, disguised or superficial compliance in order to avoid facing issues at home. This course will give practitioners the opportunity to explore why a parent behaves in this way and how to effectively engage with them.

• Understand parents’ fears
• Explore strategies to engage with different types of parents
• Consider personal safety for the practitioner
• Know how and when to use appropriate Challenge
• Explain how to record non-engagement and when to act upon it.
