Part of a series of training sponsored by Cosy, in this course Julie Fisher will guide us through an exploration of curricula, the concept of curriculum and different applications in the early years.
The Ofsted framework for schools (Ofsted 2019:41) defines curriculum as โthe substance of what is to be taughtโ, whilst the new Development Matters guidance (DfE 2020:6) suggests it is โwhat we want children to learnโ. Yet, in the early years, the curriculum has often been planned starting from what children want to learn โ embracing their interests, their fascinations and their working theories.
This course will give you an opportunity to consider how these two views of curriculum โ what the child wants to learn, and what the adult wants them to learn โ can be reconciled. We will examine the benefits of a curriculum that is individual and idiosyncratic and how this can be encouraged and facilitated alongside one that is planned and sequenced. We will finally consider the impact of curriculum โ from both perspectives – on pedagogy and the role of the practitioner.
The webinar will take place on the following dates and times:
Session 1: 11th October, 4pm-5.30pm
Session 2: 18th October, 4pm-5.30pm
