For those new to Reception, it can be a daunting prospect. This programme offers teachers bespoke mentoring and coaching to develop your understanding and skills, deepen your early years pedagogy, and support your own transition in this key phase.

This unique programme has been developed by Cathy Gunning, who has over 30+ years of experience in early years and leadership, to provide the best possible introduction to support those new to working in this vital phase. The programme offers a series of specially designed sessions across the academic year which will be tailored to the cohort’s needs. Cathy’s mentoring and coaching skills will enable a safe and trusting space online in which to co-construct, discuss, and reflect on practice, pedagogy, and the other vital elements of the EYFS. This will include: the value of play, brain development, inclusion, attachment and trauma awareness, disadvantage and vulnerability, routines, balance, and interactions.

The programme is designed to fit around the school day and your school year, forming a supportive and trusting coaching community in which all participants grow and develop.

Programme content:
– Why is early years so vital and what do others say?
– What does research tell us about play and pedagogy and the balance in teaching and learning in EYFS?
– What is the curriculum and the EYFS framework – and where do I start?
– How do we include all children and help them to make progress?
– How do I lead the team or other staff members to meet all needs of the class?
– What is expected of me – from school, from DfE, from Ofsted?

Attendees will:
– Explore and think about Reception through pedagogical input and reflection
– Grow in their confidence and understanding of early childhood
– Reflect and explore what effective, quality teaching and learning looks like
– Deepen their knowledge about the EYFS statutory framework
– Take part in mini action research to develop and explore practice
