Let’s talk with under 5s – Elklan Level 1

If you are concerned about children’s communication, language or learning, and want some practical ideas on how to help them, then this course is for you.

Written by speech and language therapists, this Let's talk with under 5s - Elklan level 1 course will enable you to learn how to enhance and develop children's understanding and talking. The course workbook also provides a number of strategies and activities that can be used in your early years provision, as well as ideas to support the Home Learning Environment.

You'll be taught over seven two-hour sessions that will take place weekly. These fun and interactive sessions will cover:

• What is communication?
• Adult-child interaction
• Play
• Understanding language
• Helping young children to use words and sentences
• Asking questions and sharing books
• Helping children with unclear speech

In order to gain accreditation, you will need to actively engage with the training, attend all seven sessions, and complete a learning log. To do this, you should expect to set aside around three hours a week. This includes two hours to attend the live training and approximately one hour to carry out tasks with the children and write up observations in an online e-log.

This seven-week Virtual Classroom takes places on the following dates (attendees must commit to attending all seven sessions). There will be a one week break on 17 October:

Session 1: Tuesday 26 September, 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Session 2: Tuesday 3 October, 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Session 3: Tuesday 10 October, 6.30pm – 8.30pm
(1 week break - no session on 17 October)
Session 4: Tuesday 24 October, 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Session 5: Tuesday 31 October, 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Session 6: Tuesday 7 November, 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Session 7: Tuesday 14 November, 6.30pm – 8.30pm
