Part of a series of training sponsered by Cosy, this two part course will explore creative practice-based examples of how you can enable your children’s ecological enquiries, whilst supporting their emotional understanding, well-being and sense of self, whilst inviting ourselves as educators to consider our values about, sustainability, ecological and climate crisis and young children’s PSED in early childhood.
When children encounter the world around them of which they are a part, it generates many connections, ideas, imagination, stories, and ideas (working theories) of how things happen, and change. Being in nature makes us all feel good, it is restorative, and not just when we are feeling down, tense or uncertain. As we have seen through the pandemic, nature calms and regulates us all. We notice it, we respond to it, and we respect it, building an empathetic and ecological identity. By being in tune with the beauty (aesthetics) of nature it helps us and children to make sense of its rhythms, cycles, evolutions, patterns, sounds, movements where we take on a collective responsibility for nature and the ecology.
From a simple creative study of fallen leaves, to an artful investigation into the snaily-ness of snails, we can tap into this internalised world of children’s ecological enquiry and empathy by listening, joining in and responding to young children’s encounters with nature. In doing so, we can create situations of learning that are responsive to their emotional well-being, their personal and social growth and their creative and ecological thinking.
The webinar will take place on the following dates and times:
