Building an Inclusive Early Years Setting

A truly inclusive setting offers ALL children an opportunity to explore and learn irrespective of their individual needs. During this session, we will explore a range of practical strategies that can be used to develop the indoors and outdoors so that it supports all children including those with SEND.

This course will enable you to:
· Understand what is  meant by an inclusive setting.
· Understand the key changes and adaptations that can be made to a setting to make it truly inclusive.
· Be aware of the impact an inclusive setting can have on the learning potential of children with SEND.
· Be able to audit and make simple changes to the setting to support the individual needs of all children.

This course is presented by Lorraine Petersen, OBE.
Lorraine has 25 years of experience in the mainstream school environment as a teacher and Head Teacher. From 2004 – 2013 Lorraine was CEO of NASEN, a charitable organisation supporting all those who work with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. She is currently Director of Chadsgrove Teaching School Alliance and Chair of Governors at Chadsgrove School and a Governor at Lokrum Fields, a newly opened Independent Special School. Lorraine works independently, delivering training for herself and others and supporting schools and local authorities with their SEND policy and practice.
