Hattie and friends

Lincoln, England - East Midlands

I am NNEB qualified and ran my own chain of Day Nurseries in Lincoln between 1997 and 2006

I created ‘Hattie and friends’ because I found it difficult to find story books featuring disability to use in my nurseries. They are now used in hundreds of settings to promote a positive image of disability.

Business Information

‘Hattie and friends’ books and posters show positive images of disability for young children.

They introduce characters with physical differences to show that we all have different abilities but can still be included. The familiar themes and educational content make them popular with young children and teachers. I love to visit EYFS settings and events to promote my books in the East Midlands. I supply inclusive story books and posters for EYFS settings around the UK

I often visit primary schools to talk about being an author and the process of writing and publishing my books. I live near Lincoln and I’m happy to travel around the east midland for these visits. I also attend conferences / festivals etc. to promote my books.

I would just like to compliment you on the amazing Hattie and Friends series. All the children love the books and the bright coloured posters that I have put up on my wall. As a result of this three other childminders have purchased some from you, all without realising the hidden message. Congratulations on being amongst the very few people who integrate disability rather than make it look like a ‘rare species’.

We are very pleased with our order. Despite the emphasis on inclusion and equal ops it is still hard to find a variety of good quality Early Years resources of this nature. The nursery staff and children have received them well and we would certainly consider ordering more in the future. It was also refreshing that they were priced reasonably.

I recently returned from a trip to Ghana to visit my mum. When packing my bags to go, I decided to take a set of the books with me to share with the children in the family house. Each evening we spent time reading the stories and looking at the colourful pages. I took time to explain to the children about the characters in the books and the places they were visiting with their parents. The children absolutely loved the books. Hattie and friends have reached Ghana.
